Rinny and me

Yesterday I went on my first walk with Rinny. By the time I left the drive way I knew who was walking who. Yes Rinny took me for my first walk with her! My road is hilly to say the least and this young lady enjoyed pulling me up/down every hill. I was on a workout for sure. She seen every squirrel, bird, and dead anything. The worst thing we met was the neighbors cows. She barked, snarled and showed teeth. She was only introduced them the day before on our farm. Not so sure she likes them? My arms were worn out from pulling her back and her wanting to run. By the time I got to the turn around bridge I was wore out.

This was the look I got when I sit down in the middle of the road to rest. Now I’m not a dog whisperer, but I’m pretty sure she is thinking , I got my human right where I want her. lol Look at her ears not sure what that means!?

Then she gave me a grin? I think, but deep in my soul I think she is laughing. You see we had only went a 1/2 mile, and I was dead on my feet. Rinny 1 me 0. By the time I got her home, all I could think was….WHAT WERE YOU THINKING! You Got A Dog! are you NUTS!

Then I remembered her first telling me I was ok. But on the other side how do you handle a strong-willed dog, a determined dog. What kind of leash do you use to train with? Any advice  ?

Rinny

Now to start this off I will need back ground. Hubby and I watch only a few shows on TV . those that we watch are Lone Ranger, The Rifleman, Daniel Boone, Hondo and of course Rin-tin-tin. There you go, so it only stands to reason that our first German shepherd would be named off (Rinty from rin-tin-tin) because she is a girl I call her Rinny. We just got her yesterday and it was love at first site.

Well, when everyone was gone and I was the only one left, I think she knew then, I was her Human, lol.  Don’t you love the look in her eyes, thats a look of ” What is that!” I said don’t worry that’s just cows, lol I think she is thinking “there’s the beef!” and gave me a kiss.

We will be taking our first walk of many  this morning. She will need training on how to walk by my side. I hope she has many years on the farm. Show more later. Have a great day!

Freezer meals- Chicken/Dressin’ Roast

I’m very much into freezer cooking. The main reason is to be able to put home cooked meals on the table even on nights I would love to do takeout. We do that also from time to time but with diabetes it’s better to eat at home.

I prep things, multi bake, large cook just so I can put them in meals for us. I take one day a week and cook most the day if needed. There are some days that I have plenty stocked up and just need the salads done, radishes, green onions cleaned, cucumbers sliced and put to salt water. The rest is just ready to pull out and warm up. I always have cottage cheese in the fridge so dinner is ready in less than 15 minutes.

Today I’m cooking a chicken roast with dressin’, taters, onions, carrots and celery. It’s going in the oven at 9 should be done around noon. This meal will make 4 meals all together.

I will split the chicken in two, 1 side will go for our meals today the other side will be done up like this.

  1. I will take the breast and slice it into 4 slices (2 pieces each). I’ll put it in a 2 sided container and put potatoes and carrots on 1 side. I’ll make brown gravy out of the drippins’ and pour on top of the chicken then seal/freeze/date.
  2. I’ll take the thigh, leg and wing and pull the meat off it. Put it in some drippins and gravy ,it will be ready to use for chicken Manhattans all I need is smashed taters and thick piece of bread. (this will make each of us a plate) seal/freeze/date
  3. I then will debone the rest of the bird, put it into homemade BBQ sauce seal/date/freeze it’s now ready for the buns.

So the meal plan would be

  1. Chicken w/gravy, taters and carrots. I will add a salad or green beans. Have my cottage cheese, cucumbers and butter bread or roll.
  2. The chicken manhattans are easy pour into a pan on low add a little Worcestershire sauce or  Kitchen Bouquet to taste and server over the bread and smashed taters. (If I’m luck I will have some of them in the freezer also)
  3. The BBQ is an easy fix warm up serve on buns, add homefries or chips.

The Drippins get used also. I pour them into a canning jar, let it cool. That take off all but a tsp of fat off the top and use it in with canned broth, to make homemade noodles.

Well noon came and we have full bellies. This is what I made

I had 2 other complete meals, 2 sides for 2 (2hind quarters and a container of taters and carrots). A container of chicken Manhattan for 2, I also had 4 cups of thick broth to add to my noodles I’m making tomorrow with meatloaf and scalloped taters.  It’s always easier to have things made up on busy days.

Herding cattle,lol

My morning started at 4 am, breakfast and clean up. Hubby needs help this morning herding cattle to the barn. We need to separate them and send some off to the auction barn this afternoon. He then needs a little help with splitting a load of wood. Yes I am a farmers wife.
Now I wish I could of taken pictures of me doing this but truthfully it wasn’t all that to look at. I can put a picture in your mind, but remember once it’s there, its not my fault.
We started by loading up on the 4 wheelers. Now I’ve road those for years, so not so bad. Then we go out into the lower pasture lot where we have to cross this little bridge. Now think of a bridge the width of your whole tires only no play room at all . You can only be straight on or you go over the edge. Easy right. Now picture this same lady with a long cattle stick in her hand, and trying to grip the steering wheel while not poking her eye out. Yes I made it, but then he yells not sure if he thinks I’m hard of hearing or if that’s just what all men do. He wanted me to get off and slowly walk the cattle towards him. Not to fast he said, just enough to keep them moving.
Well I thought I was doing pretty good. The calves were not use to me being in there so I think they were just afraid of me as I was them. They went across the other end of the branch towards the gate where the pens are, doing good I was thinking. Now I do want to let you know if you walk behind cattle you better have boots on, they drop a load and walk at the same time.
Hubby is along the outer side guiding them along the open side while I keep pushing forward. They went in fine. Now I’m thinking I can go home now, nope. He then yells again, come on across and you can help me sort them. He had went over it so I thought ok I can do this. I get up to it and I’m not sure but I thing it widened as soon as it seen me coming. It got deeper to and all I could think of was if I don’t make it my boots aren’t high enough to keep me from getting wet and sinking in the mud.
He is doing that yelling thing again and just to let you know if you’re a guy reading this, that don’t help….. He says Honey, just take a running jump you can make it. Now I’m pretty darn sure by now that he knows this fat lady can’t jump. Oh I can run, but jump. That man has lost his mind. I look at him and he looks at me the stare down begins. I say in a yell( yes it is my turn) are you NUTS!!! I then did what every other woman would of done. Got back on my 4 wheeler and road back around to him. Yes he was shaking his head, but I’m not cattle. I told him, he can’t herd me, so the frown turned into a laugh and we went on.
It was now time to sort them. Oh the joys of him saying Honey now stand at the gate and be ready to open it when I tell you. Ok I have this. He walks in, looks them over and he guides one my way. I’m ready for it, open the gate and well lets just say I didn’t do it fast enough. Now by now, I’m over the whole thing, but I know he needs my help, little as it is. After a few more go through we get the job done.
We head back to the house to back the haul trailer to the barn door. We would soon be done and I could get back to my work. Now just so you know I did that fine. We get back in and hubby comes up and said “Honey, Thanks for your help you did a great job!”. Really! I thought I had done everything wrong. Just goes to prove don’t think the worse if your helping even if you don’t know what your doing I guess I was better then none!!!! As for the wood, it started to rain. Bless that rain Lord thank you .Back to the house. Have a great day.

KITCHEN ORGANIZATION

I’ve wanted for years to have an organized kitchen only to have it undone within a few weeks. I’ve worked hard the last few weeks to pull a plan together that will help make it work for me. I’m the one who can’t remember where things go, so I’m trying this.

20170913_093615Every jar has a tag, and I only put things in there that I use. I can’t remember what I but and don’t buy so this will help me keep on track. This saved me lots of room in the pantry, but I’m not done I also took out my plates in my hutch and put baskets in there. They hold garlic, onions, taters(red, sweet and regular) and scallions. Plus I put play pretties in there because I like it, lol

Now if I just knew how to paint it. Everyone have a great day .

Coffee, meds and me, How do you do it!

My first cup of coffee ,hum so good. If ya haven’t caught on I work 3rd shift, 3 nights a week. So this is my morning, checking my mail, looking at posts I need to answer and my morning coffee! My true morning love!!!! My hubby hates it, he would take a Pepsi over it any day……………I do love him even for his huge short comings, lol.

Like I said, I work 3rd only 3 nights a week. For you other shifters, how do you take your meds during your days off? Sometime I don’t know if I’m coming or going. I have an app that I use during the 3 nights that goes off 8 times during my night to let me know I need something. This app is new to me and last night as I was getting whistled at for the 5th time,( if hubby was doing it I would love it) I was about to throw it out the door but it did help me remember to take them. On Weds when I come home  I stay up and go back to regular days so hubby and I can have time together. I don’t go back in until Sun night at 10pm. So I’m home really 5 day shifts . I would really love some input.

I’ve been walking a little more now that the weather has gotten a little cooler. I’m being honest this little chunky monkey ( I know that’s a phase for  babies) well I’m my hubbies baby and he is taller than me,so there! Anyway I can’t handle heat all that well, not just weight but also health and meds. I do love to walk and thanks to hubby, he took me off the streets( Oh how I always wanted to say that). For some reason I just had thoughts of being thin, lol. I’ll take those thoughts any way I can get them, I do hope one day I will be mean and lean….I just turned 59 so that could happen,in 20 years say 79. I don’t know to many fat ones, and with a cain in my hand I could get mean..not what I was looking for, murmur. Even though I know in my heart I’m going to be one hot mama in my 70″s..lol

Anyway back to hubby. He mowed a path for me in the field so I could get off the road when I walk. I’m really glad! Here is my new view and walk area. I stay along the wood line, it has plenty of incline to help get the blood pumping and pretty enough to enjoy the hard work. Maybe one day I will be able to run it! Guess I’ll get busy everyone have a great day or night..

Fall and that pounding!

I’ve always loved fall. The colors and smells of the trees in the fall around us are breath-taking. Living on a farm has its rewards because I can walk in the woods daily. Watch the leaves change on the trail and drift off to thoughts of childhood. In woods like these we use to play with grapevine swings. Let me tell ya that’s what we called them, but no grapes were there, they just looked like them. They would be climbing up the side of a tree and mangled in its branches. We would cut it up the trunk at a height we could all reach and just swing out. We could get it to go out a long way seemed like forever to our young minds. Now I’m not sure kids do that sort of thing, but here in these woods I see them. Five kids having a blast back then, just playing with what we had.

That pounding is getting louder, but I’m not going to listen. Right now I’m riding my pony down a ole gravel road, not many cars come on this road so off I go. I could ride my house Blackie like the wind. He would always go right where I wanted him to be. I could lay my head down on his mane and he would just keep to the path. Loved that horse. Grandpa got him for me, or at the least that’s what he told me. My grandpa was my night in shining armor. He would always take away my fears, let me cry in his arms and always told me that I was his little blondie. He always made me feel good enough, I enjoyed my time with him and grandma. Grandma always told me that he spoiled me, then laughed and gave me windmill cookies. I wonder if they make them anymore? She was the one who  got me started into chickens. She had fried chicken or chicken and dumplings on Sundays. She would go out, chase a chicken grab it and until I got a little older would take it to the hen house and chicken we would have. There’s that pounding, I won’t be able to hold it off much longer as I try to finish this note. Life is always changing and I’m forever getting older so the pounding has to be answered as I realize how long this is…..back to the ponding of real life, but I will be back to the memories again. HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!
